She is one of the pets you can easily acquire from the very beginning of your venture at Kelan Village. Xaolan is an orphan, lives alone with her Grandma. Her set of skills are amazing. There's 'stone wall' and 'star'. Stone wall is an assistant skill which creates a wall on the casted player. It prevents damage from physical attack. Star is a magical attack that depends on her intelligence.
But for those who will start training her, I suggest not to do her death quest. For it will only waste your stars in the future when you decide to revive her.
Oh well, even though I let her die and revived her again. Now thats my Xaolan is level 1xx. I'd say she's worth it. Cuz she's really helpful in doing quests. Especially with Rebirth pre-quests and all the others where the monsters deal physical damage. And because she's earth type too. Her defense is way better than other elements. And when mostly of the boss monsters are water types. Just make her defend and she will lose only 1 hit point when attacked.
Since bursting is the easiest way to train pets. Xaolan tops it all too. Just make sure to get the remote s etting right. And she'll sure level up fast. Since she has an assistant skill, stone wall that is. She'll be doing that to all the pets throughout the whole battle. Remember to set the Hit point limit to just enough HP the pets have so they'll be the only ones to be 'stone-walled'.

Also make sure that she wears stuff that adds 'sp'. You don't want her to run out just before each battle ends.
